Copper Beech is an independent, literary small press specializing in poetry and translation. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and named for the noblest of New England trees, the Press has published eighty titles of poetry, fiction, and translation since 1973. 

Edited and directed, since 1983, by Randy Blasing and Mutlu Konuk Blasing, it numbers among its recent authors such poets as Kay Ryan, Jeffrey Harrison, Phillis Levin, Robert Richman, Rebecca McClanahan, George Bilgere, Margaret Holley, Laurence Goldstein, Isabel Nathaniel, Robert B. Shaw, Jordan Smith, Jeanne Murray Walker, Christopher Buckley, Len Roberts, Robert Cording, Peter Schmitt, Gary Young, and, in translation, Jelaluddin Rumi, Jorge de Sena, and Nazim Hikmet.

For the last fifteen of its thirty years, Copper Beech has published only poetry and translation, The Press favors poetry of the formal and semi-formal varieties that use traditional form not as an end in itself but as a means to an end—in this case, actual communication with readers. In the immortal words of Duke Ellington, “It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing.” To the same end, it publishes work that, in content, is personal rather than academic. As for poetry in translation, the Press presents English versions of world-class poets, over the centuries, who write in the less-translated languages. All books of poetry and translation are published as original paperbacks in editions that range from 500 to 2000.
